Soccer Dawgs 5-0 in district; knock off Bogue Chitto, Loyd Star and West Lincoln

Franklin County High School’s varsity boys soccer program entered the holiday season with four-straight wins — three of those coming in the past week against a trio of district foes.

The Soccer Dawgs improved their overall season mark to 9-3-3 while boasting of a 5-0 record in regional competition after downing Bogue Chitto, Loyd Star and West Lincoln prior to the holiday scheduling hiatus.

FC 6, BOGUE CHITTO 0

Landon Furlow and Nathan Griffin scored two goals each while Jamari Tolliver and Parker Marcengill scored once apiece in a 6-0 win over Bogue Chitto on Monday, Dec. 13.

Marcengill also finished the night with a trio of assists while Furlow had one in the contest.

Franklin County, as a whole, recorded 20 shots and had nine shots on goal.

Specifically, on offense, Griffin led the team with five shots while Furlow added three — and both had two shots on goal apiece.

Terrence Fields had four shots with Xavien Felton, Zachary Kent and Tolliver with two each. Keyundre Felton and Tim Hutto had one shot each.

On defense, the Soccer Dawgs collected 33 stops with Kent and Kennon Johnson leading the way with four each. Fields, Furlow, Mason Emfinger and Colton Shaw collected three take-aways apiece.

Others with stops for FC included: Ethan Touchstone, 2; Tolliver, 2; Chris Carraway, 1; Drew Mullins, 1; Jack Hutto, 1; Felton, 1; Griffin, 1; Parker Jordan, 1; Marcengill, 1; Preston Cupit, 1; and Felton, 1.

Franklin County collectively held the Bobcats to only three shots in the game.

Goalkeeper Dakota Chisholm claimed the shut-out victory with three saves to his credit.

FC 1, LOYD STAR 0

Marcengill set the tempo early on offense thanks to a timely first-half goal on an assist from Tolliver to give Franklin County all the points it would need to take a 1-0 victory over the Loyd Star Hornets on Tuesday, Dec. 14.

The FC offense finished the affair with 29 total shots and 10 shots on goal.

Marcengill recorded a team-high six shots and three shots on goal with Tolliver accounting for five shots and two SOG.

Furlow had four shots and two SOG while Griffin also had four shots and one SOG.

The Soccer Dawgs had 57 defensive stops against the Hornets with Kent getting 10 of those while Touchstone and Johnson ended up with nine apiece.

Also on the defensive stops tally sheet were: Fields, 6; Emfinger, 5; Furlow, 4; Shaw, 4; Marcengill, 3; Tolliver, 3; Keyundre Felton, 2; Griffin, 1; and Xavien Felton, 1.

Chisholm accounted for eight saves in front of the net for Franklin County and picked up with fifth shut-out victory of the season.

FC 5, WEST LINCOLN 2

Marcengill and Furlow each scored twice while Tolliver added a goal to propel Franklin County to a 5-2 win over West Lincoln on Thursday, Dec. 16.

West Lincoln scored twice in the first half while FC put the ball in the net three times in the first half and twice more after intermission.

Kent and Shaw had one assist each for the Soccer Dawgs in the victory.

FC had 32 shots against the Bears with 15 shots on goal.

Marcengill and Furlow paced Franklin County with seven shots and four shots on goal each to set the offensive tempo.

Tolliver also had seven shots and three SOG while Griffin accounted for four shots and one SOG.

Keyundre Felton, Kent and Fields had two shots each as Xavien Felton finished with a single shot.

On the defensive side, Franklin County had 53 take-aways against West Lincoln with Kent and Johnson leading the way with eight each.

Touchstone finished with seven stops and Shaw recorded six.

Others with defensive take-aways included: Emfinger, 5; Fields, 5; Furlow, 3; Xavien Felton, 3; Kolby Cox, 2; Marcengill, 2; Tolliver, 2; Keyundre Felton, 1; and Griffin, 1.

Chisholm had eight saves in front of the net despite surrendering two goals to West Lincoln in the keeper role.

UPCOMING GAMES

Following the Christmas break, Franklin County’s varsity boys soccer team will be on the road to face Wesson at 7:15 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 4 at Wesson and will play at Forest at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 8.

The Soccer Dawgs will travel Monday, Jan. 10 to battle Loyd Star in a game set for 6:15 p.m.

FC will then travel to Bogue Chitto to play at 6:15 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 11.

FC’s Senior Night festivities are set at home on Friday, Jan. 14 when the Dawgs battle Magee.
