Interest sought for community band renewal

by Sean Dunlap

Area musicians with a desire and ability to contribute their time and talents to reform Franklin County’s community band are being sought.

Debbie Halford, who is helping spearhead this reformation effort, said the band had been part of the fabric of the local community in years past so she and others want to see a renewal of this program.

“There is interest in starting the band up again, and we’re putting out a call for musicians — from age 9 through 90 — wanting to participate,” Halford said.

“The goal is to do a couple of concerts each year — particularly one before Christmas and one during the summer — with practices being held before each event.”

Halford also noted that if someone has a band instrument that he or she would be willing to sell, lend or donate to the cause, that would also be welcomed and appreciated.

Those seeking more information about the community band or wanting to help can contact Halford through her Facebook page, by sending an email to fccommunityband@gmail.com or addressing correspondence to P.O. Box 575, Meadville, MS 39653.
