Pesticide applicators training slated April 17

by Sean Dunlap

A training program for area private pesticide applicators is planned for 6 p.m., Monday, April 17 at the Mississippi State University Extension Service office at 20 Walnut Street in Meadville.
A private applicator, who must be at least 18 years old, utilizes or supervises the usage of restricted-use pesticides to produce an agricultural commodity on his or her own land, leased or rented property or on an employer’s land.

“We encourage those who already have their certification to check the date it expires to see if you need this class to renew your credentials,” Keith Whitehead, MSU Extension Service agent for Franklin County said.

“This would also be a good opportunity for those seeking their private pesticide applicators’ credentials for the first time to enroll and begin the process.”
Whitehead said the class will focus on subjects including pesticide safety practices and will spotlight federal and state regulations on usage and handling of such products.

There is a $20 fee, which must be paid by check or money order (no cash), to participate in the training session.

Individuals with disabilities can seek reasonable accommodations to take part in the session and should notify the Extension Service office regarding their needs prior to the class offering.

Registration for and general information about the program can be obtained by calling 601-384-2349.
