Kids Fishing Day set for April 22 at Clear Springs

by Sean Dunlap

Franklin County youth are invited to wet a hook on Saturday, April 22 during the “Kids Fishing Day” event at the U.S. Forest Service’s Clear Springs Recreation Area off U.S. Highway 84 between Meadville and Roxie.

Bill Meriwether, who serves as a wildlife biologist with the Homochitto National Forest, said the program seeks to get young people outdoors and to enjoy the area’s bounty of freshwater fish.

“All kids will need for a good time is some bait and their poles,” Meriweather said. “We also encourage families to bring their lawn chairs and insect repellent along with snacks and drinks to enjoy this time together for a couple of hours.”

He also noted all children in attendance must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian at all times.

On-site registration will begin promptly at 7 a.m., and the event will end at 9 a.m. No pre-registration is required.
