Dawgs down Tylertown in double-header
TYLERTOWN — The Franklin County High School varsity baseball team made quick work of 7-3A district foe Tylertown by sweeping the Indians in a double header.
On Tuesday, April 4, FC traveled to Walthall County and downed the home team, 21-6, in the early contest and took a 16-0 victory in the second affair.
In the first game, the Diamond Dawgs, now 15-4 on the season and 8-0 in district play, pounded out 11 hits — including separate home runs by Dalton Meadows — and committed no errors in the victory.
Franklin County and Tylertown both scored three runs each in the first inning with the Dawgs going on a 4-0 scoring spurt in the second and a 2-0 jaunt in the third.
The two teams scored three apiece in the fifth before FC unloaded for nine runs in the top of the sixth frame.
Meadows, who scored four runs, paced Franklin County with a 3-of-3 showing at the plate that also included a double along with accounting for a single-game, season-high eight RBI.
Quez Rancifer had a 2-of-3 at-bat effort with a pair of singles, two runs scored, two RBI and a walk to his credit.
Donovan Moore and Larry Pernell were both 1-of-2 with the former scoring five runs on one hit — a single — and a walk while the latter recorded a double with four runs scored, an RBI, two walks and a strike out.
Jamari Tolliver was 2-of-4 for the Bulldogs thanks to a pair of singles. He also scored twice, had an RBI, a walk and a strike out.
Noah McCormick went 1-of-3 against Tylertown with a single, two RBI and a walk.
In addition, Dakota Chisholm had a 1-of-4 performance at the plate with a double, one run scored, two RBI, a walk and a pair of strike outs.
Terrance Fields finished 0-of-4 with a run, an RBI and a walk, and Carter Spring was 0-of-2 with a strike out.
In his only plate appearance, Ridge Clanton was hit by a pitch.
Peyton Hebert, who served as courtesy runner for both Clanton and Spring, crossed home plate twice in the game.
In terms of pitching, Clanton worked two-thirds of an inning and was tagged for three runs (all earned) on four hits with a walk on 16 total pitches.
Spring came in and worked three-and-two-thirds innings and also surrendered three runs (all earned) on four hits with five strikeouts and one walk over the course of 71 throws.
With just 15 pitches, Moore closed things out over two-thirds of an inning and gave up no runs or hits while striking out two and walking one.
The second game ended early under the mercy rule as Franklin County plated two runs in the first inning, 10 in the second and four more in the third to claim the 16-0 shut-out.
Tolliver worked two-and-two-thirds innings on the mound for the Bulldogs and pitched a gem with no runs nor hits, five strike outs and no walks in just 34 pitches.
FC exploded for 10 hits and recorded one error while Tylertown had nothing to show offensively at the plate and was cited for four defensive errors.
Meadows, Rancifer and McCormick all had one homer each in the victory.
Meadows was 2-of-2 with three runs scored, two RBI and a walk; Rancifer was 1-of-3 with a run and four RBI; and McCormick went 2-of-3 with a double, two runs, three RBI and a strike out.
Judson Arnold and Pernell finished with a double each as both players were 1-of-3.
Arnold scored twice and struck out once while Pernell scored twice, had two RBI and also struck out one time.
Moore wound up 1-of-2 with a single, two runs plated, an RBI, a walk and a strike out.
Chisholm and Fields were both 1-of-3 against Tylertown. Chisholm scored twice and had one RBI as Fields came home once and struck out once.
Tolliver, at the plate, was 0-of-1 with a run scored.

UPCOMING GAMES
Franklin County was slated to return to action on Tuesday, April 11 by hosting 7-3A district opponent Wesson.
Results of that contest will appear in next week’s edition of The Franklin Advocate.
The two teams are scheduled to play again with Wesson hosting on Friday, April 14.
The baseball regular season will conclude on Monday, April 17 as FC hosts Loyd Star, and this contest will also mark the Bulldog’s senior night program.
