Jerry Dale Whittington

Funeral services for Jerry Dale Whittington, 71, of Smithdale, were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Smithdale.

Interment was in the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation was held from 6 to 9 p.m., Friday, March 24, 2023, and from noon until the time of service on Saturday at the church.

He was born to James “Jimmy” and Lucille Whittington in McComb on July 7, 1951, and passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at his residence with his family by his side.

A graduate of Liberty High School and member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Whittington joined the U.S. Army and served as an air traffic controller during the Vietnam War.

After his discharge in 1977, Whittington joined the National Guard and continued his service to the nation.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include the love of his life, Tammy Smith; his sons, Kirk Whittington and his wife Cassandra of Smithdale and Billy Whittington and his wife, Theresa, of LaFollette, Tenn.; his daughters, Jerri Burris and her husband, Shawn, of Smithdale and Cessna Whittington of Clear Water, Fla.; his grandchildren, Summer Whittington, Natalie Whittington, Melanie Whittington, Cody Burris, Savannah Carter, Brittany de la Cruz, Timothy McGuire, Caroline Lawrence, Tanner Whittington, Sawyer Whittington and Seth Massey; his six great-grandchildren; his two brothers, Jack Whittington and Charles Whittington; and his sister, Jimmie Lou Spencer.
