Nathan Steele Foundation skeet shoot event set for May 13

by Sean Dunlap

The popular annual skeet shoot to raise funds for the Nathan Steele Foundation will take place on Saturday, May 13 in Franklin County’s McCall Creek community.

The event will feature four skeet divisions — youth (ages 16 and under); ladies; amateurs; and sportsmen.

The participation cost per round for youth, ladies and amateurs is $5 while sportsmen can take part for $10 per round.

A pistol event is planned after the shotgun competition has been completed.

Those taking part are reminded to bring their own shotguns and shells.

In addition, a bake sale and raffle are planned along with a 5-kilometer trail run. Hamburger, jambalaya or barbecue sandwich plate lunches are also being sold during the event.

Registration for the skeet shoot begins at 8 a.m., with the trail run also slated to start at the same time.

The shooting competition will begin around 9 a.m.

In addition, orders are currently being taken for the official event T-shirts and tank tops, which are priced at $20 each.

T-shirts are available in sizes from youth small to adult 4XL while tank tops are available in adult sizes only — from small to 4XL.

Orders for shirts must be received no later than Sunday, April 23.

Organizers are also inviting local businesses and groups to help make the gathering a success through sponsorships as well as donations of merchandise.

The foundation was established to honor the memory of Steele, who worked to promote an educated and certified emergency medical services outreach in Southwest Mississippi.

The organization provides scholarship opportunities for area students who are working toward EMT-paramedic certification, which was Steele’s chosen career path and passion.

Steele was a business partner with Tyler Blalock in forming Rural Rapid Response ambulance service in Meadville.

Blalock and Steele’s father, David, worked together to form the foundation, which has been able to assist students financially since 2015.
