Dorthula Wallace "Tootsie" Hammill

Funeral services for Dorthula Wallace Hammill, 88, of Livingston, La., were held at noon on Monday, March 20, 2023, at The River Church in Tickfaw, La., with the Rev. Josh Payne officiating.

Interment was in Louisiana National Cemetery in Zachary, La.

Visitation was held from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at the church.

Affectionately known as “Tootsie,” she was born to Pink Hugh Wallace and Lillie Miller Wallace on Sept. 3, 1934, and passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2023.

Mrs. Dot belonged to The River Church where she was loved and brought joy to everyone she touched.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of more than 60 years, Augustus Hammill; her sisters, Willie Mae Wallace, Clara McManus and Lilla Hall; and her brother, Fleet Hugh Wallace Sr.

Survivors include many loving nieces and nephews.

Additionally, she was loved by her faithful companions and furbabies, Tuk, Laslia, Ladie, Sergeant and Jodi Boy; and was loved by her many neighborhood furbabies — who knew her as “Granny” — Baby Girl, Molly, Dotsie (named after Mrs. Dot) and Copper.

The family sends its love and appreciation to special caring people in Mrs. Dot’s life, including Lynda and Sidney Stafford and Janice Sharkey.
