Franklin County High School’s varsity softball team mustered two runs on three hits at home Monday, March 20 against Lawrence County and wound up on the short end of a 16-2 decision to the visiting Lady Cougars.

FC, which fell to 6-5 on the season following the loss, committed seven errors in the contest.

Lawrence County jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning before adding three runs in the top of the third and 10 in the top of the fourth to seal the victory.

The Lady Bulldogs’ two runs were scored in the bottom of the third inning as Karlee Wallace drew a lead-off walk and Jhalayah Tillman followed with a double to left.

From there, Sadye Scott grounded out, but collected an RBI — the only one for the home squad — as her effort at the plate pushed Karlee Wallace across for FC’s first run.

Tillman was also able to score for the Lady Dawgs on one of two Lawrence County errors in the affair.

Tillman, Scott and Indayshia Morgan were all 1-of-2 in at-bats with Scott and Morgan stroking a single apiece in the first frame.

Morgan also had her team’s lone successful steal on the basepaths.

Karlee Wallace and Greyonne Queen both went 0-of-2 in the affair with the former drawing a walk and the latter collecting a strike out.

Katherine Romero and Marianna Thomas were also 0-of-2 with a strike out each against the Lady Cougars.

Amberly Wallace and Marlee Tindle both went 0-of-1 with the former recording a walk and a strike out.

From the pitching circle, Karlee Wallace worked four innings for the Lady Bulldogs and gave up 16 runs (five of those earned) on eight hits.

She walked six Lawrence County batters and sent four down on strike outs.

In total, she faced 31 Lady Cougars’ batters and had a pitch-to-strike ratio of 107-58 (54.2 percent).

Franklin County was slated to return to action on Tuesday, March 21 in hosting the Hazlehurst Lady Indians for a varsity double-header, but results of those contests were not available at press time and will be published next week.

Also this week, the Lady Bulldogs were scheduled to travel to Port Gibson on Thursday, March 23.

FC previously downed the Lady Blue Waves, 17-0, back on Tuesday, March 7 in Meadville.

The varsity Lady Dawgs were also slated to travel to Tylertown on Tuesday, March 28 before taking part in a tournament at West Lincoln on Saturday, April 1.
