Funeral services for Gregory Thompson Tindle Sr., 81, of Meadville, were held at noon on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at Meadville Baptist Church.

Interment was in Franklin County’s Midway Cemetery.

Visitation was held from 10 a.m., until the time of service on Tuesday at the church.

He was born to Clyde and Mary Evelyn Tindle on Feb. 17, 1942, and was raised on the family farm in Cleveland.

He was a 1960 graduate of Cleveland High School, attended Moorhead Community College where he played football and graduated from Delta State University in 1966.
He passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at home while surrounded by his beloved family.

Mr. Tindle married his soulmate, Patsy Price, in 1964 and the couple moved to Meadville in 1966 where he accepted his first job at Franklin County High School and became known as “Coach.”

He taught for 28 years, and his love of education made him well known as the “feared government-economics teacher” until he retired in 1994.

Mr. Tindle dedicated himself to helping others, and served as Meadville’s mayor from 1984 to 2005.

Additionally, he was an alderman, judge, firefighter, bus driver, truck driver and car salesman.

He was a member of Meadville Baptist Church for 57 years, loved his church family and enjoyed singing in the choir.

His favorite pastime was riding his motorcycle all over the United States. He enjoyed riding with others who shared his love for the open road.

Mr. Tindle was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Garth Tindle and Gerry Tindle; and his sister-in-law, Lynette Tindle.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Patsy Tindle; his two sons, Sheriff Tom Tindle (Kaky Tindle) and Tim Tindle (Jacqueline Everett); his six grandchildren, Molly Linton (Derek), Brittany Devoll (Shawn), Tucker Tindle, Trey Tindle, Trent Tindle and Marlee Tindle; his four great-grandchildren, Lila, Adrian, Ella and Barry; his sister-in-law, Rosemary Tindle; and five nieces and nephews.

He loved his family and kept up with each one’s activities — even when he could no longer attend those events.

He wanted all of his family and friends to love the Lord so they could be with him in Heaven.

Pallbearers were Trey Tindle, Trent Tindle, Tucker Tindle, Derek Linton, James Tindle and Hunter Wilson.

The family suggests memorials in Mr. Tindle’s name be made to Hospice Ministries of Brookhaven, 397 Brookhaven St., Brookhaven, MS 39661.
