Franklin County High School and Mississippi State University alum Cameron Young was among 319 players officially invited last week to take part in the 2023 National Football League Scouting Combine to be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Young, as a defensive lineman, leads a class of three MSU players – which also includes defensive back Emmanuel Forbes and linebacker Tyrus Wheat — invited to participate in the high-profile event.

The combine, which features representatives from all 32 NFL teams and will take place Tuesday, Feb. 28 through Monday, March 6, serves as an evaluation tool for draft prospects and ends with position-specific, on-field workouts.

The program is a unique and pivotal step for those seeking to play professional football by elevating their profiles and showcasing their talents to clubs and fans before finding their new teams in the NFL.

Combine performance can potentially impact each participant’s draft position.

Scouting Combine live drills begin Thursday, March 2, with live coverage on NFL Network starting at 2 p.m. each day.

The schedule of drills will include:

• Thursday, March 2 — defensive linemen and linebackers.

• Friday, March 3 — defensive backs.

• Saturday, March 4 — quarterbacks, wide receivers and tight ends.

• Sunday, March 5 — running backs and offensive linemen.

Live streaming via the NFL Network will be available across multiple platforms, including smartphones, PCs, tables and connected TVs through the NFL app or nfl.com/watch for subscribers of participating NFL Network providers.

Young, who most recently took part in the post-season Senior Bowl football game in Mobile, Ala., appeared in 42 games during his MSU career and made 25 starts at defensive tackle.

He recorded 107 tackles, nine tackles for loss, two sacks, four pass breakups and one interception during his post-secondary time on the field.

The 6-foot-3, 315-pounder, who is the son of Tremel and Cameron Young, started all 13 games at Mississippi State this past season and finished with 38 tackles, three stops for a loss, one sack, one pass deflection and a pair of quarterback hurries.

In prepping at FCHS in Meadville, Young collected 51 tackles — including 43 solo stops — along with 11 sacks, a pair of fumble recoveries and a forced fumble during his senior campaign with the Bulldogs.

In Young’s junior season at Franklin County, the defensive standout recorded 90 tackles with 10 sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery.

Additionally, he amassed 75 tackles and two fumble recoveries as a high school sophomore.
