Twenty-eight FC soccer players honored

Twenty-eight members of Franklin County High School’s varsity soccer program have been selected to receive Class I District 7 post-season honors for their play during the recently completed 2022-2023 campaign.

From the Lady Soccer Dawgs, Karlee Wallace was chosen as most valuable player while Brooklynn Cupit was named most valuable offensive player and Ken’niya McGowan was tapped as most valuable defensive player.

Wallace accounted for 13 goals and 10 assists during the season while going 1-of-1 on penalty shot attempts, recording 123 shots and 52 shots-on-goal on offense and claiming 175 defensive stops.

Cupit amassed 17 goals and 13 assists, went 1-of-2 on penalty shot attempts; had 97 shots and 53 shots-on-goal along with 83 take-aways.

McGowan earned an offensive assist and 173 defensive steals.

In addition, Lilly Hutto was named as the most valuable midfielder. She recorded 11 goals and four assists offensively in an effort that saw 71 shots and 40 shots-on-goal while collecting 149 defensive stops.

She was also 4-of-5 on penalty shot attempts.

Katherine Romero was named as most valuable goalkeeper thanks to a 14-3-3 showing in front of the net during the season with 10 shut-outs and 104 total saves versus only 14 surrendered goals.

Chosen as first-team, All-Region 7 honorees and their 2022-2023 stats were:

• Kaitlyn Fussell — 10 goals; 10 assists; 1-of-1 on penalty shot attempts; 71 shots and 41 shots-on-goal; and 91 stops.

• Amberly Wallace — two goals; 12 shots and six shots-on-goal; and 147 stops. She also worked as a goalkeeper for the team with a 1-1 record that included a shutout and a save.

• Braxton Martin — two goals; one assist; four shots and three shots-on-goal; and 146 stops.

• Addison Cooper — two goals; a 1-of-1 showing on penalty shot attempts; one shot and one shot-on-goal; and 179 stops.

• Gre’yonne Queen — 14 goals, seven assists; 71 shots and 38 shots-on-goal; and 69 stops.

Those making the second-team, All-Region 7 squad and their season showings were:

• Carmon Coleman — two assists; 15 shots and seven shots-on-goal; and 84 stops.

• Meg Kelly — one shot and 77 stops.

• Marlee Tindle — one assist; two shots; and 92 stops.

• Edniya Gordon — four goals; four assists; 30 shots and 14 shots-on-goal; and 33 stops.

For the Soccer Dawgs, Jamari Tolliver was crowned as most valuable player as he was credited with 17 goals and 18 assists while collecting 106 shots and 55 shots-on-goal and was 2-of-2 on penalty goals attempted offensively.

Four of his goals were game winners and he also had seven game-winning assists this season.

Defensively, Tolliver pulled down 92 stops for FC.

Landon Furlow and Mason Emfinger were recognized as most valuable offensive and defensive players, respectively.

Furlow scored 17 goals and had seven assists, recorded a hat trick, went 3-of-5 on penalty goal attempts and had 95 shots and 49 shots-on-goal.

He also had five game-winning goals and one game-winning assist while pulling down 91 stops.

Emfinger’s 177 stops helped set the tempo for the Soccer Dawgs’ defense throughout the 2022-2023 season.

He also had five goals and three assists on offense while accounting for 24 shots and 14 shots-on-goal and was 1-of-1 on penalty goal attempts.

Emfinger also had a game-winning goal and a game-winning assist.

Terrance Fields, in being named as FC’s most valuable midfielder, accounted for a program-high 189 defensive stops plus recorded five goals and three assists while going 2-of-2 on penalty goals attempted.

He also had 55 shots and 30 shots-on-goal.

Dakota Chisholm was awarded the most valuable goalkeeper honor after he finished the season with a 14-2-2 record in front of the net that also included five shut-outs and 126 saves.

He allowed only 26 goals along the way.

Players selected as first-team, All-Region 7 members and their 2022-2023 statistics were:

• Kolby Cox — four goals; seven assists; one penalty goal attempt; 72 shots and 27 shots-on-goal; one game-winning goal; one game-winning assist; and 136 stops.

• Preston Cupit — two goals; one assist; six shots and three shots-on-goal; and 156 stops.

• Chris Carraway — one penalty goal attempt; five shots and two shots-on-goal; and 152 stops.

• JaQuez Anderson — nine goals; two assists; 61 shots and 28 shots-on-goal; four game-winning goals; and 63 stops.

• Xavien Felton — six goals; 10 assists; 69 shots and 30 shots-on-goal; three game-winning goals; three game-winning assists; and 109 stops.

Placed on the second-team, All-Region 7 squad and their season totals were:

• Drew Mullins — one goal; two shots and one shot-on-goal; and 116 stops.

• Parker Jordan — one assist; one penalty goal attempt; two shots; and 107 stops.

• Keyundre Felton — three assists; 13 shots and five shots-on-goal; and 78 stops.

• Zachary Kent — two goals; 15 shots and five shots-on-goal; and 63 stops. Kent suffered a season-ending leg injury after playing in several early games for the Soccer Dawgs.
