Funeral services for Ethel Dillon, 93, of Meadville were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2023, at Meadville Baptist Church with Dr. Matt Buckles, the Rev. Keith Smith and the Rev. Jim Woodyear officiating.

Interment followed in Franklin County’s Midway Cemetery.

Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, Feb. 6, 2023, at Franklin Funeral Home in Meadville and from 10 a.m., until the time of service on Tuesday, Feb. 7 at the church.

She was born to Nathaniel Abb Guice and Ethel Adams Guice on July 24, 1929, in the Oldenburg community, and passed away at Saint Dominic Hospital in Jackson on Thursday, Feb. 3, 2023.

She was a dedicated member of Meadville Baptist Church, where she spent many years teaching Sunday School.

Additionally, she enjoyed reading, traveling, playing Bridge, square dancing, crocheting and being with family.

She taught English for more than 30 years, and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Garveese Dillon; her parents; and her great-granddaughter, Elyse Woodyear.   

Survivors include her daughters, Jo Margaret Dillon Woodyear and her husband, Joe, of Laurel, Karen Dillon Buckles and her husband, Matt, of Vicksburg, and Arie Dillon Long and her husband, Ricky, of Roxie; her grandchildren, Mandy Long Higgins and her husband, Eric, Jim Woodyear and his wife, Sarah, Kevin Long, Doug Buckles and his wife, Adrienne, Kendra Buckles Watson and her husband, Thomas, Justin T. Woodyear and his wife, Shelby, and Janna Woodyear Tyler and her husband, Justin; her 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great- granddaughter; along with a host of family, friends and caregivers.

Pallbearers were Eric Higgins, Jim Woodyear, Kevin Long, Doug Buckles, Justin Woodyear, Thomas Watson, Justin Tyler and Jeff Mullins.

Honorary pallbearers were Fred Hollinger, John Robert Kimbrough and Bob Kimbrough.

The family request memorials be made in Ethel Dillon’s name to Samaritan’s Purse.
