JV boys hoops top JC, Wesson

Franklin County’s junior varsity boys basketball team claimed two of three contest decisions — beating Jefferson County and Wesson and falling to Hazlehurst — during the past two weeks of hoops play.

FC 27, JEFFERSON

COUNTY 25

The Jefferson County JV Tigers jumped out to a 13-11 first-half lead on Tuesday, Jan. 17 against Franklin County, but the JV Bulldogs went on a 16-12 tear through the second half to claim a two-point, 27-25 victory.

Johnathan Shell paced the JV Dawgs with a team-high 13 points — including a single three-pointer, three field goals and four free throws.

In addition, Jailan Hunt scored four points while Eric Dyer, Derrick Wilson, Donovan Wilson, Quentin Logan and Dennis Shell contributed two each in the win.

FC was 4-of-8 (50 percent) from the free throw line with Johnathan Shell connecting on the team’s successful shots from the stripe.

HAZLEHURST 11, FC 10

In another contrast of halves, Franklin County outscored Hazlehurst, 4-3, in a low-scoring affair on Friday, Jan. 13.

The second half belonged to the visiting Indians as Hazlehurst outlasted the JV Bulldogs, 8-6.

FC’s Tyson Windom led his team with four points as Derrick Wilson scored three, Donovan Wilson added two and Hunt chipped in one.

The JV Dawgs went 6-of-12 (50 percent) from the charity strip with Windom hitting 2-of-2, Hunt sinking 1-of-2 and Derrick Wilson draining 3-of-8.

FC 35, WESSON 32

Franklin County led from start to finish against the Wesson JV Cobras — 19-17 in the first half and 16-15 after intermission — to take a 35-32 win on Tuesday, Jan. 10.

Windom scored seven points for the JV Bulldogs while Johnathan Shell added six and Donovan Wilson and Rylei Edney contributed five apiece.

Additionally, Dyer finished with four, Derrick Wilson and Casey Cook wound up with three apiece and Hunt added two.

The JV Dawgs were 7-of-15 (46.6 percent) in relation to free throws with Johnathan Shell going 2-of-2, Donovan Wilson draining 3-of-4 and Cook and Edney both finishing 1-of-2.

Dyer was 0-of-5 from the line in the contest.
