Bobby Frederick Oglesby
May 11, 1934 - Jan. 13, 2023
Graveside services for Bobby Frederick Oglesby, 88, were held at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 16, 2023, at Providence Baptist Church Cemetery in Meadville.
He was born to Frank and Myrtis Oglesby on May 11, 1934, in Meadville, and passed away on Friday, Jan. 13, 2023.
He was raised in Franklin County and graduated high school as a multi-sport athlete who excelled in both baseball and football.
After high school, he served in the U.S. Army, spending time in Germany with the occupation forces during the 1950s.
Following his service, he attended at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg where he earned a bachelor’s degree and met his wife, Patricia Oglesby.
Mr. Oglesby spent a majority of his career at the Grand Gulf Nuclear Plant, retiring after 20-plus years. Throughout the years, he had many passions, including working with Special Olympics, participating in his local Bass Angling Sportsman Society — BASS — fishing chapter and dedicating time to the Boy Scouts and coaching Little League baseball.
Following retirement, Mr. Oglesby spent his time traveling the country, driving a motor home to every state — with the exception of Rhode Island. Outside of his home state of Mississippi, Alaska was his absolute favorite.
Mr. Oglesby also had a great love for hunting, fishing and playing his mandolin with his local music group, an activity affectionately referred to as “pickin’ and grinnin.’”
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Robin Oglesby; his brother, Leon Oglesby; and his sister, Eva Nell Milton.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Oglesby; his daughter, Amy Oglesby (Brian Carter); his son, Norman Oglesby; his two grandchildren, Brent Jones (Stephanie) and Reece Jones; and his sister, Hilda Rae Priest.
