Funeral services for Gayla Smith Jordan, 83, of Smithdale, were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023, at Sharkey Funeral Home in Summit with Brother Anthony Boyd and Dr. Larry LeBlanc officiating.

Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery in Summit.

Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 6, 2023, and from 10 a.m., until the time of service on Saturday, Jan. 7 at the funeral home.

She was born to Dale Burkey and Lucille Montgomery Burkey on Oct. 25, 1939, in Walnut, Ill., and passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2023, at her residence and surrounded by family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Carey Smith; her two brothers, Raymond Burkey and Harold Burkey; her sister, Iris Spaulding; and her grandson, Drew River Smith.

Survivors include her husband, Joe V. Jordan of Smithdale; her three sons, Carey Dale Smith and his wife, Renae, of Glenrock, Wyo., Kevin Smith and his wife, Alise, of Summit, and Craig Smith and his wife, Toni, of McComb; her step-son, Jorge Salazar and his wife, Maritza, of Orlando, Fla.; her two brothers, Ben Burkey and his wife, Pat, of Winston Salem, N.C., and Darry Burkey of Atascadero, Calif.; her 11 grandchildren and their spouses, Todd Smith, Jason Pittman, Dillon Osbourne and Nichole, Jennifer Smith, Tanner Smith and Casey, Jake Smith and Makayla, Marcus Groves and Jessica, Michael Groves and Katy, Zack Graham and Ashley, Tripp Graham and Ashley, and Chase Graham and Madison; her 16 great-grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
