Funeral services for Mary Ann Babington Barlow, 90, of Maryville, Tenn., were held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 10, 2022, at Meadville Methodist Church with the Revs. Pat Sullivan and Calvin Cosnahan officiating.

Interment was in Franklin County’s Midway Cemetery.

Visitation was held from noon until the time of service on Thursday, Nov. 10 at the church.

She was born to Herbert Robert and Margie Kate Cain Babington on Sept. 13, 1932, in Meadville, and passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2022.

She graduated from Millsaps College with a degree in music, and worked as a music teacher in the Meadville school system when she met Dr. James “Jim” Buren Barlow, who had come to town to practice medicine.

They married in 1955 and started their family before moving to Jackson where Jim worked as a radiologist. They had four children: James (Jimmy) Buren Barlow Jr., Julie Townes Barlow Reynolds, Jeffrey Farmer Barlow and Douglas Eugene Dahlem Barlow.

Mary Ann’s love and passion for music stayed with her throughout every season of life and allowed her participation in many churches and organizations through the years.

It has been told that early in her music career, she would drive around Meadville picking up every child in sight until she had enough to fill the choir loft on Sunday evenings.

In addition to her love of music, she was equally as passionate about her home and family. She often provided stellar home cooked meals as well as a loving environment for her loved ones.

In 2004, Jim and Mary Ann moved to Maryville, Tenn., where she began playing the piano for residents at Asbury Assisted Living.

She played the piano on a volunteer basis during every phase of her adult life while always being the very kind and generous Mom and Mamaw that the family cherished.

She was preceded in death by her husband; and her siblings, Margie Townes Babington Sullivan and Herbert (Herb) Robert Babington Jr.

Survivors include her four children, 11 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers included Jim Barlow, Jeff Barlow, Doug Barlow, Matt Barlow, Scott Barlow and Hudson Reynolds.
