Lady Dawgs hoops team falls to North Pike, 53-44

Franklin County’s varsity girls basketball team came up on the short end of a 53-44 decision to North Pike High School on Thursday, Nov. 10.

The Lady Jaguars’ victory avenged a 41-39 loss to the Lady Bulldogs a week earlier.

North Pike went on a 11-4 first-quarter run with FC held to a Harmoni Porter field goal and a 2-of-4 effort by DeAsia Buie from the charity stripe.

The teams battled to a 13-all tie in the second frame with Porter draining a trey along with a two-pointer, Buie adding four and Saiyon Harris and Ja’Kya Brown tacking on two points each.

Trailing 24-17 to start the second half, Franklin County was outpaced again by North Pike by a 16-15 margin — even though Brown and Porter each hit once from outside the arch.

The Lady Jags sealed the victory thanks to a 13-12 run in the final stanza of the game.

In the end, three Franklin County players scored in double figures — Buie finished with 18, Porter recorded 12 and Brown rallied for 11.

Harris finished her night with two points and Arya Williams ended with a single point.

Franklin County was 7-of-15 (46.6 percent) from the free throw line against North Pike.

Buie went 4-of-7 (57.1 percent); Brown was 2-of-4 (50 percent); Williams went 1-of-2; and Porter was 0-of-2.

The loss dropped FC’s varsity girls to 2-2 on the season.

JUNIOR VARSITY

NORTH PIKE 14, FRANKLIN COUNTY 11

Franklin County’s junior varsity girls basketball team took its first loss of the season in falling 14-11 to North Pike on Thursday, Nov. 10.

ZaKiyah Middleton recorded FC’s lone points during the first half of the contest while North Pike scored nine points.

The JV Lady Dawgs charged back valiantly in the second half with a nine-point spurt — as Middleton hit a field goal and extra point while Raine Edmond and Kailyn Middleton drained a two-pointer each and Jessaney Harness was 2-of-2 from the charity stripe.

Middleton was also 1-of-4 from the line.

Franklin County’s junior varsity girls are now 1-1 on the season.

UPCOMING GAMES

The Lady Bulldogs were slated to return to action at home against Tylertown on Tuesday, Nov. 15, but results of that contest were not available at press time.

On Thursday, Nov. 17, FC will head to Loyd Star before the Thanksgiving holiday hiatus with play beginning with middle school basketball games set for 4 p.m.

The varsity Lady Dawgs will travel to McComb on Tuesday, Nov. 29 and then to Brookhaven on Friday, Dec. 2.
