Funeral services for Opal Lea Johnston, 85, a long-time resident of Liberty, were held at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 4, 2022, at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church with the Rev. Zach Smith and the Rev. Blaine Stafford officiating.

Interment was in Mount Pleasant Memorial Cemetery in Gloster.

Visitation was held from 9:30 a.m., until the time of service on Friday, Nov. 4 at the church.

She was born to Clayton Jackson and Lottie Hollingsworth Jackson on May 8, 1937, and passed away at her residence on Monday, Oct. 31, 2022.

During her life, she worked for the Kellwood Co., Eden Industries, Buffalo Services and later retired as the switchboard operator with the Georgia Pacific plywood plant in Gloster.

Mrs. Johnston was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother in-law, Gordon Netterville.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Robert Johnston; her two sons, Ronnie Johnston and Mike Johnston and his wife, Becky; her two grandchildren, Heather Jackson and Tyler Jackson; her two sisters, Carolyn Netterville and Martha Gearld and her husband, Thomas; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers were Roger Brumfield, Michael Foreman, Tyler Jackson, Chuck Netterville, John Newman, and Joey Swearingen.
