Area veterans to be honored at Nov. 12 program in Bude

Franklin County’s 2022 Veterans Day celebration will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 12 on Railroad Avenue in downtown Bude.

The program seeks to honor the veterans of all military branches with a time of food, fellowship and entertainment, according to event organizer Elizabeth Ann Peeples.

The Pride of Franklin County Band is scheduled to perform a patriotic medley for those in attendance and Jefferson County High School’s Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps students will present the colors and offer a salute.

This year’s slate of speakers will include Bude Mayor Linda Green, Brother Jessie Givens of Franklin County’s Landmark United Pentecostal Church, District 85 state Rep. Jeffrey Harness, D-Fayette, and Franklin County Veteran Service Officer Grady Fleming.

The program will also feature an open microphone for any veteran in attendance to share his or her personal stories and service recollections if he or she desires to speak.

Music will be provided by Larry Wallace, the Landmark Trio and Sweet Home Baptist Church.

Sullivan’s Kitchen of Meadville will serve catfish lunch plates to the veterans and those participating in the program.
