FC hoops squads make preseason tourney run

MAGEE — Franklin County High School’s varsity basketball programs took part in a preseason hoops tournament played in Simpson County on Saturday, Oct. 22.

The Lady Bulldogs faced off against Florence with De’Asia Buie accounting for seven of her team’s 10 points andKennedy Washington adding one.

Florence scored 21 total points in the outing against FC.

In downing Magee, 24-13, the Lady Bulldogs scored 14 points in the first period of action with Buie and Harmoni Porter contributing five each.

Ja’Kya Brown and Niyla Wright both chipped in two apiece for Franklin County.

In the second frame, Porter scored five while Buie added three and Wright had two points.

In boys’ preseason competition against Quitman, Franklin County rolled to a 39-21 win over the Panthers.

The Bulldogs scored 16 points in the first period with Derrick Wilson leading the way with five of those, Kepatrick Nimox and Daylen Thomas scoring four each with Tyler Walton recording two and Michael Covington adding one.

In the second frame of that contest, Kentrez Bonds exploded for 10 points while Thomas scored six for Franklin County.

Jamie Green finished with three points for FC with Jailen Hunt and Wilson winding up with two apiece.

Against Enterprise-Clarke, Franklin County cruised to a 39-5 victory.

In the first frame, Michael Covington led with eight points while Bonds and Green helped paced the Bulldogs with six apiece.

In addition, Nimox, Wilson and Hunt went on to score two each.

The second period saw FC’s Quentin Logan pace his team with eight of their 11 points while Donovan Wilson finished with three.

The varsity Bulldogs will begin their 2022-2023 campaign on Saturday, Oct. 29 by traveling to face off against West Lincoln beginning at 1 p.m.

On Tuesday, Nov. 1, Franklin County is slated to play at home against Amite County with tipoff slated for 5 p.m.

The basketball program was formally introduced during the annual “Meet the Bulldogs” program on Tuesday, Oct. 18.

During the exhibition portion of that event, Raine Edmond and Thomas took top honors in the three-point shot contest while Wright finished atop the free-throw shooting competition.
