Franklin County High School’s varsity soccer teams claimed wins over Adams County Christian School in a preseason jamboree played at home on Saturday, Oct. 22.
LADY DAWGS 6, ACCS 0
FC Lady Bulldogs’ senior forward Brooklynn Cupit battled her way through a sprained ankle to pace her team with three key goals in the squad’s preseason debut.
Senior Lilly Hutto found the net on a penalty kick for another FC goal, and was credited with an assist on a rocket shot that bounced off the post and was put in by Cupit.
Senior Kaitlyn Fussell also scored thanks to an assist from Kendra Jones, and freshman forward Gre’Yonne Queen accounted for a goal on an assist by Fussell.
Defensively, Lady Bulldogs’ senior Karlee Wallace and sophomore Addison Cooper led the way with nine defensive stops each.
Sophomore goalkeeper Katherine Romero earned the shut-out victory in front of the net and picked up a pair of saves for the Lady Bulldogs.
DAWGS 7, ACCS 1
Franklin County junior midfielder Landon Furlow, who suffered a season-ending knee injury last season, made his presence felt against ACCS on Saturday with two goals scored and two assists.
“I thought we played really well as a team,” FCHS Head Soccer Coach Jeff Long said. “The effort and execution were on point. You could also see that Landon missed playing and that we had missed him.”
Furlow connected on a penalty kick and a well-placed shot from 20 yards out in the contest.
His assists came early on in setting up shots for sophomore midfielder Xavien Felton during the sixth and eighth minutes of regulation.
Junior defender Drew Mullins picked up an assist to Furlow early in the second half.
Junior midfielder Kolby Cox scored for FC in the game’s 52nd minute from 20 yards out.
Two more FC goals came from sophomores Tim Hutto and Mason Orr.
Terrence Fields led the Soccer Dawgs’ defense with a team-high seven stops.
ACCS, which was limited to just three shots, saw its only goal come after FC had emptied its benches.
