Funeral services for Delilah Sue Freeman Otts, 73, of Smithdale, were held at noon on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022, at Hartman-Jones Funeral Home in McComb with the Rev. Marvin Howard officiating.
Interment was in Temple Hill Cemetery.
Visitation was held from 10 a.m., until the time of service at the church.
Delilah was born to Wince Jim Freeman and Alice Elsie McKenzie Freeman in Canton on April 6, 1949, and passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2022, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church.
Mrs. Otts attended Zachary High School and received her GED in Plaitine, Ill., before going into the Air Force Guards.
She did her basic training in Lackland, Texas, her tech school for food service in Lowery, Colo., and then stationed in Chicago, Ill.
Two years later, she came back to Mississippi and was stationed in Gulfport where she finished her duties in the Air Force Guards.
Delilah continued her education at Southwest Mississippi Community College in Summit where she received her certification as a CNA and worked to take care of the elderly for many years before retiring.
The Otts loved growing their own vegetables and Delilah especially enjoyed her flower gardens and her greenhouses where she would grow flowers from seeds.
She would grow beautiful flowers and then give them away to brighten the day for others.
“God loves a cheerful giver,” she would often say to others. Also, she would say, “Give your problems to God because He will be up all night, anyway.”
She will be greatly missed by all those that knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-mother, Wilma Jean Freeman; her sister, Jerline Freeman Escobar; her two brothers and a sister-in-law Roy Winston Freeman Sr. and his wife, Gloria, and Jimmie Dale Freeman.
Survivors include her husband, John W. Otts of Smithdale; her children, Laura Lee Tidwell Baudin Beebe of Kemp, Texas, Henry Lee Tidwell III of McComb and David Lyn Tidwell of Jackson, La.; her step-daughter, Robin Otts Parker (Randy) of Columbus; her 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; a special friend, Katy Buckley (Leslie) of Summit; her brother, Pearley Gene Freeman (Ginger) of Columbus; her sister, Ina Pearl Freeman LeBouef of Washington; her chihuahua dogs (which she loved as her children); along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and a host of friends.
Pallbearers included her grandsons, Cory Baudin and Tye Baudin, her great-grandson Preston Baudin, Gunner Buckley, Leslie Buckley and Bubba Boggs.
