Bude mishap claims life of 62-year-old pedestrian

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating a Franklin County traffic fatality that occurred on Sunday, Sept. 25 in Bude.
Cpl. Craig James, who serves as public affairs officer for MHP’s Troop M in Brookhaven, said James Jenkins, 62, of Fayette was struck by a vehicle and killed on Mississippi Highway 184 near Hilltop Drive-In.
The accident occurred around 7:55 p.m., Sunday evening with local first responders called to the scene including the Bude Police Department, Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, area volunteer firefighters and Rural Rapid Response ambulance service.
The MHP reported a 2015 Kia Sorrento, driven by Teresa Williams, 51, of Meadville, was traveling eastbound and collided with Jenkins, who was walking along the heavily traveled thoroughfare.
Jenkins could be seen most days walking throughout the community and was a familiar face to passers by as he walked along that stretch of road, which has no sidewalks.
The probe into the accident was reportedly ongoing at press time.
