Saints bedevil Lady Dawgs' varsity, JV volleyball teams

by Sean Dunlap

RIDGELAND — For the first time since Tuesday, Aug. 9, Franklin County’s varsity volleyball squad dropped a three-set road decision on Thursday, Sept. 8 to hard-charging 7-3A district foe Saint Andrews Episcopal School — 8-25; 9-25 and 11-25.

The road loss ended a 10-game winning streak over the past month for the Lady Bulldogs. FC’s other losses came in the season opener to Salem and Tylertown in a multi-team match held in early August.

In the initial set, FC was limited to four service points with Gabrielle O’Quinn and Niyla Wright scoring two apiece as four other points were generated on turnovers by the Lady Saints.

Franklin managed three service points in the second set — two from Sadye Scott and one from Karlee Wallace — with six points generated on turnovers.

The final set saw five Lady Dawgs on the tally sheet with Wallace, Wright, Scott, Kennedy Washington and Ja’Kya Brown all with one offensive point each.

The Saint Andrews’ decision turned out to be Franklin’s first loss in district play (4-1 on this year’s campaign) with the Lady Dawgs knocking off Wesson on Aug. 15, Port Gibson on Aug. 23, Crystal Springs on Aug. 25 and Hazlehurst on Aug. 30.
