Verta Grace Freeman

Funeral services for Verta Grace Freeman, 91, of Smithdale, were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 13, 2022, at Concord Baptist Church in Franklin County’s McCall Creek community with the Rev. Eric Moak officiating.

Ms. Freeman, who faithfully attended Mount Olive Baptist Church in Smithdale, was born to Grady Freeman and Cordie Gill Freeman in Franklin County, and passed away on Monday, Aug. 8, 2022.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Martha Howell, Ida Mae Brown and Dorothy Dillon; and an infant brother and sister. 

Survivors include her nephew, John B. Howell III and his wife, Christy; her grandnephews, Bentley, John IV and Grady, of Hattiesburg; and a special group of friends that visited with and lovingly helped her in her later years, including James “Clem” Steele, Bobby and Ann McFadden, Beulah Ann Spillman and David Steele.
