AJFC sets "Community Day" meeting for May 20

The AJFC Community Action Agency has announced plans to hold its annual “Community Day” and public hearing to outline its service programs.

The session will be held at the Mississippi State University Extension Service office at 20 Walnut Street in Meadville across from the Franklin County Courthouse from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., on Friday, May 20.

AJFC representative Kimberly Ford said the format will be a come-and-go gathering that seeks to outline programs, which include the Community Service Block Grant and the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program.

“This is an opportunity for the public to visit and learn about these important human service initiatives and how they can be used to help those in need,” Ford said.

She noted the CSBG outreach aids low-income individuals and families by securing and retaining meaningful employment, attaining adequate education, improving the use of available income and obtaining adequate housing.

The program also provides emergency public assistance including health and nutrition services and seeks to remove obstacles that block individual self-sufficiency.

LIHEAP seeks to assist low-income households with their home energy bills.

Ford encouraged those with questions about either program to come to the meeting and ask about eligibility requirements as well as how those outreach efforts might apply to their particular situations.

The AJFC Community Action Agency, a private, non-profit corporation chartered under state law in 1966, serves Franklin, Adams, Claiborne, Copiah, Jefferson, Lawrence and Lincoln counties residents.

The organization seeks to provide vital human service assistance programs that improve the quality of life for those community residents taking part.
