FC softball downs Tylertown, falls again to Bogue Chitto

Franklin County’s varsity fast-pitch softball team cruised to a 17-1 road decision over Tylertown on Thursday, April 7 and fell at home to Bogue Chitto, 11-6, on Friday, April 8.

FC’s regular season mark settled at 7-7 overall following the split decisions.

FC 17, TYLERTOWN 1

The Lady Bulldogs capitalized on five hits and 13 walks to claim another District 7-3A win over the visiting Tylertown Lady Chiefs last Thursday.

FC scored twice in the first inning before exploding for 11 runs in the second and four more in the third while Tylertown’s lone score came in the bottom of the first.

Shortstop Jhalayah Tillman paced the team with a 2-for-4 plate performance along with scoring four runs and collecting three RBIs against the Lady Chiefs.

Catcher Sadye Scott had a 1-for-2 batting performance with a double, an RBI and two walks while pitcher Karlee Wallace finished 1-for-3 with a run, an RBI, a walk and two strikeouts.

First baseman Amberly Wallace went 1-for-1 with a double, a run scored and two walks.

Second baseman Marianna Thomas walked three times and scored as many runs while right fielder JaKya Brown reached base twice on walks and plated two runs.

Third baseman Kennedy Washington (0-for-1) had a sacrifice, scored a run, collected an RBI, drew a walk and struck out once.

Center fielder Katherine Romero walked twice and crossed home plate twice for FC, and left fielder Maddie Moak went 0-for-3 and struck out once.

Courtesy runner Tori Jackson came home three times in the contest and led the Lady Bulldogs with five stolen bases.

Tillman, Brown and Thomas each had three stolen bases while Karlee Wallace swiped two and Romero had one.

From the pitching circle, Karlee Wallace worked three innings and wound up striking out six Lady Chiefs’ batters.

She surrendered one run in the contest while maintaining a pitch-to-strike ratio of 62.5 percent.

FC previously defeated Tylertown, 16-1, at home on Thursday, March 24.

BOGUE CHITTO 11, FC 6

Despite both teams pounding out six hits apiece and Franklin County holding an early lead, Bogue Chitto scored multiple runs late to claim an 11-6 win over the Lady Bulldogs.

FC plated a pair of runs in the first inning, one in the second, two more in the fourth and one in the sixth.

The visiting Lady Bobcats scored four in the fourth, one in the fifth and three each in the sixth and seventh innings to ice the win.

Greyonne Queen helped the FC offense with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate that included a triple and two runs scored.

Tillman went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, one run and three RBIs.

Four other Lady Bulldogs’ batters collected one hit each — Karlee Wallace (1-for-3) with a double, a run, an RBI and a walk; Moak (1-for-4) with a strikeout; right fielder Sophia Miller (1-for-3) with a run and a strikeout; and Washington (1-for-3) with a double, a run, an RBI and a strikeout.

Queen and Karlee Wallace both had stolen bases in the contest and FC left six baserunners stranded.

Karlee Wallace threw seven innings for the Lady Bulldogs and struck out 10 Bogue Chitto batters during her tenure.

In throwing a grand total of 139 pitches in the contest, she gave up nine hits and 11 runs (two of those earned) while walking two.

Her pitch-to-strike percentage was 65.5.

Bogue Chitto and Franklin County combined for seven errors — six of those committed by the Lady Bulldogs.

The Lady Cougars previously defeated Franklin County, 5-4, in a contest that was played on Friday, April 1.
