April 06, 2022

For the first time in three weeks, the Mississippi Department of Health has reported a new case of coronavirus in Franklin County.

As of Sunday, April 3, the infection count had climbed to 1,924 — a cumulative two-plus years total of cases reported locally.

The agency went on to note Franklin County reported only four cases of coronavirus during March — some of the lowest numbers seen since the outbreak of the illness.

Additionally, the state health agency noted the county’s death toll related to the transmissible illness remained steady at 38 during the past week.

The last local death was tallied during the first week of March.

Statewide, 795,164 cases of COVID-19 and 12,402 illness-rated fatalities have been reported since the pandemic began in the Magnolia State during March, 2020.
