FCLE sets pre-K, kindergarten registration on April 14

by Sean Dunlap

Franklin County Lower Elementary School will hold its annual registration event for incoming pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students for the 2022-2023 academic year on Thursday, April 14.

Principal Sharlet Moore said pre-kindergarten registration begins at 9 a.m., with kindergarten sign-up to follow at 11 a.m.

Children must be at least 4 years old on or before Thursday, Sept. 1, 2021, to be registered for pre-kindergarten, and at least 5 years old by the same date to take part in kindergarten classes.

The registration event will be a drive-thru format with parents and guardians asked to pull into a parking space in front of the school and personnel will bring all necessary paperwork to the vehicle.

Every child is required to have these documents submitted during the registration process — a certified birth certificate, a Form 121 Certificate of Immunization Compliance and the child’s Social Security card.

Additionally, two proofs of residency within Franklin County — containing a physical 9-1-1 street address — are required for the registration process to take place and should also be brought to the registration event.

Examples of these documents include:

• Mortgage paperwork.

• Apartment rental agreement or home lease (original documents only).

• Filed Homestead Exemption forms.

• Mobile home tax documents from the current year.

• Utility bills dated within the last two months or a utility deposit receipt. No cellular telephone bills can be used for registration.

• A driver license.

• A voter registration card.

• Automobile registration documents.

• A certified copy of filed petition for guardianship (if pending) and final decree when granted.

• Any official documentation that will objectively and unequivocally establish that the parent or guardian resides within the Franklin County School District’s jurisdiction; and in the case of a student living with a legal guardian, verifying that responsible adult is a bona fide resident of the district.

The first full-day of classes for students during the 2022-2023 academic year is set for Friday, Aug. 5.
