FC softball beats McComb, falls to Wesson and Bogue Chitto

A combination of two hits, four errors and 16 strikeouts proved costly for the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs varsity fast-pitch softball program on Monday, March 28.

FC wound up dropping a 7-3 decision to District 7-3A foe Wesson, which was the team’s first regional loss of the season.

The Lady Cobras scored one run in the bottom of the first, two more in the third and three in the fifth to take a 6-0 lead.

Franklin scored its initial run in the top of the sixth, but Wesson plated another in the bottom half of the frame to make it a 6-1 Lady Cobras’ lead.

The Lady Bulldogs scored two more in the top of the seventh to help set the final margin in the affair.

Franklin County shortstop Jhalayah Tillman had a 1-for-3 effort at the plate with a double, a run scored, an RBI and two strikeouts while third baseman Kennedy Washington went 1-for-2 in the contest.

Center fielder Katherine Romero, despite going 0-for-1, accounted for a pair of walks, struck out once and scored a run.

Second baseman Marianna Thomas was 0-for-2 with a walk, two strikeouts and plated a run.

Tillman, Washington, Romero and Thomas all had one stolen base each against Wesson.
Karlee Wallace worked six innings from the circle for the Lady Bulldogs — striking out four, walking four and surrendering seven runs on nine hits to the Lady Cobras.

Despite the loss, Wallace’s pitch-to-strike ratio was 62.9 percent.

Thursday, March 31

FC 15, McCOMB 0

The Lady Dawgs combined eight hits and 10 walks for a 15-0 home win over McComb over the course of three innings.

FC scored seven runs in the first inning, five in the second and three more in the third to claim the victory.

Tillman, Karlee Wallace and Lauren McCaa all had two hits each in the contest while Amberly Wallace and Romero both had one hit each.

Tillman and Karlee Wallace each stroked a double while Amberly Wallace, who led the team with three runs scored and four stolen bases, clubbed a triple against the Lady Tigers.

Karlee Wallace, Romero and McCaa each scored twice in the game with single runs plated by Scott, Tillman, Maddie Moak, Marianna Thomas and Washington..

McCaa paced the Lady Dawgs with three RBIs while Tillman, Amberly Wallace and Romero contributed two apiece and Karlee Wallace was credited with a lone RBI.

Scott worked three innings for FC from the pitching circle where she struck out three and walked one while not permitting any hits or runs.

Her pitch-to-strike ratio was 65.6 percent.

The teams combined for three errors with two of those committed by McComb.

Friday, April 1

BOGUE CHITTO 5, FC 4

Franklin County mustered only two hits, saw seven batters strike out and committed nine errors against Bogue Chitto on the road Friday, but was able to keep things close in terms of the score.

FC scored two runs in the first inning and one more in the sixth while Bogue Chitto scored one run each in the first, fourth and fifth innings to knot the score at 3-all headed toward the end of the game.

In the end, the contest came down to an international tie breaker with Bogue Chitto plating two in the eighth while FC pushed across just one run.

Scott and Tillman got the only hits in the game for the Lady Bulldogs with Tillman connecting on a triple and scoring two runs.

Other runs were plated by Washington, who reached after being hit by a pitch, and Moak, who drew a walk and accounted for her team’s lone RBI.

Karlee Wallace went seven-and-a-third innings for FC as pitcher and wound up striking out 12 Bogue Chitto batters while surrendering three hits.

Her pitch-to-strike percentage finshed at 78.7.

ON DECK

Franklin County softball was slated to travel to Tylertown on Thursday, April 7 before playing host to Bogue Chitto on Friday, April 8.

The squad is also scheduled to face Port Gibson at home Monday, April 11 before hosting Wesson on Tuesday, April 12.
