Archery fares well at South State competition
HATTIESBURG — Franklin County’s archery teams had solid showings at South State competition — with high school participants taking first-place in their division.
Franklin County High School took top honors among 3A teams in the Archery In Mississippi Schools (AIMS) competition — thanks to a team score of 3,154.
West Marion High School was second with a 3,143 score and Seminary claimed third with a 2,870 team finish.
Franklin Middle School was fourth in its 11-team division with a score of 2,804 — just behind Mendenhall, Sumrall and Purvis.
Franklin Upper Elementary was second in a two-team field and finished with a score of 1,911.
West Marion Elementary won the division with a 2,177 points effort.

This year’s South State event was held at the Forrest County Multi-Purpose Center in Hattiesburg Tuesday, March 22 through Thursday, March 24.
The AIMS state archery championships were slated for April 4-9 at the Kirk Fordice Equine Center in Jackson.
The competitive program, which is coordinated through the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, seeks to introduce fourth through 12th graders to the sport of international-style target archery.
On average, more than 5,000 participants are enrolled in the program statewide.
