For the second week in a row, the Mississippi Department of Health reported no new cases of coronavirus in Franklin County.

As of Sunday, March 27, the seven-day infection count remained at 1,923 — a cumulative two-year total of cases that has remained unchanged since the tally reported on Sunday, March 13.

Additionally, the state health agency noted the county’s death toll related to the transmissible illness remained at 38.

For the period March 1 through 27, only three cases of the illness and one death have been reported locally — a dramatic turnaround from January (451 infections and three deaths) and February (105 infections and two deaths).

Statewide, 794,225 cases of COVID-19 and 12,383 illness-rated fatalities have been reported since the pandemic began in the Magnolia State during March, 2020.
