FC softball scalps Tylertown, 16-1
Franklin County High School’s varsity fast-pitch softball team moved to 3-0 in 7-3A district play on Thursday, March 24 with a 16-1 drubbing of the Tylertown Lady Chiefs at home.
The mercy-rule shortened game saw the Lady Bulldogs collect three hits and 12 walks en route to the victory with FC plating five runs in the second, two in the third and nine in the fourth.
Shortstop Jhalayah Tillman, left fielder Maddie Moak and third baseman Kennedy Washington all went 1-for-2 at the plate against Tylertown.
Tillman, who had two walks and two RBIs, scored three runs.
Moak, credited with a walk and two RBIs, crossed home plate twice.
Washington, also with one walk and an RBI, accounted for one score.
Center fielder Katherine Romero walked three times (once after being hit by a pitch), had an RBI for Franklin County and scored twice while right fielder Tori Jackson walked and scored twice.
Despite going 0-for-3 against the Lady Chiefs, first baseman Amberly Wallace scored two runs, had an RBI and walked once while catcher Sadye Scott was 0-for-2 with a run and a walk (being hit by a pitch once).
Indayshia Morgan walked once (hit by a pitch), laid down a sacrifice, collected two RBIs and scored twice in the game.
Pitcher Karlee Wallace had an 0-for-4 effort at the plate with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored.
In her performance from the pitching circle, she struck out 11 Tylertown batters, walked two and surrendered two hits along with a run – counted as earned – in four innings of work.
Her pitch-to-strike ratio was 61.1 percent.
Romero paced the home team with four stolen bases while Moak and Washington accounted for three each. Amberly Wallace, Karlee Wallace, Morgan and Jackson all had two stolen bags apiece.
The teams combined for four errors – three of those committed by Tylertown.
FC ended the game with four runners left stranded while the Lady Chiefs had five runners remaining hanging.
This was Franklin County’s third-straight district contest to be settled by the mercy rule as the Lady Dawgs pounded Hazlehurst in a double header played on March 10 with FC claiming 16-0 and 24-0 wins over the Lady Indians.
The latest victory boosted FC to a 5-5 mark on the fast-pitch softball season.
