FC, Lawrence end in 2-all stalemate
Franklin County’s varsity baseball team scored early and held a 2-1 advantage over Lawrence County for much of their Saturday, March 5 contest.
However, a run in the sixth by LC wound up being the last score to be tallied and the programs ended their non-district battle in a 2-all tie.
Lawrence County initially got on the scoreboard in the top of the first, and Franklin answered immediately as Donovan Moore started things off by reaching on a walk and then stealing second.
Ridge Clanton lobbed a sacrifice bunt into play for FC’s first out, but the effort pushed Moore into scoring position.
Dalton Meadows followed with a pop fly to center with Moore plating the run after tagging up on Meadows’ second out for the Bulldogs.
In the second frame, Franklin County was able to take a one-run lead it would hold through the sixth inning.
Things got started when Larry Pernell advanced on a one-out walk and Dakota Chishom reached on a subsequent error to put runners at second and first bases, respectively.
The duo advanced one bag each on a Lawrence County passed ball before Jamari Tolliver struck out swinging.
Another passed ball allowed Pernell to score his team’s second run of the contest.
Franklin County had no hits in the entire contest with Meadows being credited with the team’s lone RBI.
The Dawgs were issued four walks while nine batters went down on strikes.
On the mound for the Bulldogs, Meadows worked five-and-two-thirds innings and threw 103 pitches during his tenure.
Meadows went on to scatter two Lawrence County runs — one of those earned — on a total of four hits.
He struck out seven batters and wound up walking four.
Meadows’ pitch-to-strikes ratio against Lawrence County was 103-59.
Tolliver worked a third of an inning and threw eight pitches and struck out one LC batter. Six of Tolliver’s pitches were for strikes.
The teams combined for a total of three errors — one of those committed by the Bulldogs.
