Lady Dawgs softball opens '22 season with 1-1 mark
Franklin County High School’s varsity fast-pitch softball season has gotten off to a 1-1 start.
The Lady Bulldogs beat Natchez High School, 10-9, at home on Thursday, Feb. 24, and fell to Lawrence County, 14-2, on the road Saturday, Feb. 19.
Against Natchez last week, the Lady Dawgs finally took the lead and the win by scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the 10th inning.
The two programs scored two runs each in the fourth, and three apiece in both the eighth and ninth innings.
Natchez scored only one run in the top of the 10th.
The Lady Diamond Dawgs had 41 at-bats in the game with a total of 10 runs on 10 hits.
Franklin County catcher Amberly Wallace went 3-for-3 at the plate and collected three walks and an RBI.
Pitcher Karlee Wallace, center fielder Katherine Romero and shortstop Jhalayah Tillman finished their nights with two hits apiece.
Karlee Wallace, Romero and Tillman scored two runs each.
In addition, Karlee Wallace and Romero recorded two RBIs apiece while Tillman added one.
Left fielder Maddie Moak had a hit in the game and scored a run.
Additionally, Karlee Wallace and Tillman both clubbed doubles against Natchez and Romero dinged a triple.
Sadye Scott, who spent time playing first and third, and right fielder Lauren McCaa both scored runs in the contest for FC.
Karlee Wallace pitched 10 innings for the Lady Dawgs and limited Natchez to five hits while giving up only two walks and striking out 16.
Her pitch-to-strike ratio was 136-99.
Franklin County and Natchez combined for 13 errors in the game with seven committed by the home team.

The Lady Cougars pounded out 10 hits and plated 14 runs against Franklin County in the Lady Bulldogs’ softball season opener on the road.
In 19 at-bats, Franklin County recorded just four hits throughout the course of the game and saw its two runs come home in the top of the fourth inning.
Tillman had a 2-for-2 day at the plate with a run and an RBI.
Romero and Moak were both 1-for-2 with Romero scoring the Lady Dawgs’ other run in the outing.
Tillman and Romero each had a double.
Lawrence County scored three runs each in both the first and second innings, and four apiece in the third and fourth frames.
Karlee Wallace worked four innings for the Lady Dawgs in the pitching circle and struck out four Lady Cougars batters while walking two more.

ON DECK
The Lady Diamond Dawgs are slated to travel to Natchez on Thursday, March 3 for contests set to begin at 5 p.m.
The team will then travel to face the Wesson Lady Cobras on Tuesday, March 8.
Franklin County is slated to play at home on Thursday, March 10 against the Hazlehurst Lady Indians.
On Friday, March 11, the team will work to get in another home contest against West Lincoln before Franklin County Schools begin their spring break.
