Graveside funeral services for Virgie Chapman McCormick, 93, were held at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 28, 2022, at Union Church Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Mills officiating.

Mrs. McCormick, a life-long resident of the Union Church community, was born to James Edward Chapman and Irma Youngblood Chapman in Jefferson County’s Nebo community on July 27, 1928, and passed from this life on Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2022, at home with her loving family by her side.
She was a homemaker, and worked for many years as a cosmetologist.

She was a member of Union Church Presbyterian Church for 70 years — teaching Sunday School for many of those years.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Samuel Charles McCormick; her sisters, Inez Ray, Lillie Sanders, Mamie King and Hazel McCormick; and her brothers, Carl Chapman, Percy Chapman and T.J. Chapman.

Survivors include her sons, Wayne McCormick (Francie) of Hartwell, Ga., and Mike McCormick (Suezan) of Union Church; her daughter, Barbara McCormick Bandy (Wayne) of Union Church; her grandchildren, Scott Bandy (Erin), Lee McCormick, Jason Bandy (Shelby), Lauren McCormick Owen (Derek) and Melissa Bandy Bier (Tyler); her great-grandchildren, Seth Wooley, Samuel Bandy, John Bier, Katherine Bier, Mary Michael Bandy, Hope Bier and Molly Bandy; her two great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
