Irish blank Dawgs, 4-0, on the road

BILOXI — Franklin County’s varsity boys soccer program dropped its second-round playoff game to Saint Patrick Academy, 4-0, on Saturday, Jan. 29.

The loss ended the Soccer Dawgs’ season at 16-4-3 overall with a 10-0 run through Class I District 7 play and a 10th-straight regional crown in 2022.

Saint Patrick scored once in the first half and three times after intermission to seal the victory, while Franklin County was limited to only two shots — by Jamari Tolliver and Parker Marcengill — and Marcengill was credited with his team’s lone shot on goal.

In one of the few times this season officials carded FC, Tolliver was ejected from the ballgame and Zachary Kent was cautioned during the contest.

On defense, the Soccer Dawgs collected 71 stops on Saturday night with Colton Shaw having a team-high 10 and Kent, Ethan Touchstone and Kennon Johnson each finishing with nine.

Others with take-aways against Saint Patrick included: Mason Emfinger, four; Nathan Griffin, four; Terrence Fields, four; Chris Carraway, three; Drew Mullins, three; Tolliver, three; Parker Jordan, three; Marcengill, three; Xavien Felton, three; Keyundre Felton, two; and Kolby Cox, two.

SEASON TOTALS

Franklin County wound up its 2021-2022 campaign with 52 goals scored over the course of 21 games with two forfeits by opponents related to the coronavirus pandemic.

Griffin led FC with 13 goals while Landon Furlow had 10 and Marcengill and Tolliver each recorded nine.

Also scoring goals for the Soccer Dawgs were: Emfinger, two; Shaw, two; Cox, one; Keyundre Felton, one; Fields, one; Tim Hutto, one; Jordan, one; and Kent, one.

On the assists front, FC recorded 36 on this year’s soccer campaign with Tolliver collecting a team-high seven while Kent added six and Furlow had five.

Soccer Dawgs credited with assists were Griffin, four; Marcengill, four; Cox, two; Xavien Felton, two; Shaw, two; Fields, one; Johnson, one; Mullins, one; and Touchstone, one.

Furlow and Griffin led Franklin County with two penalty goals each on two attempts while Jordan was 1-for-1. The team had five on the season

Marcengill had two penalty goal attempts while Johnson and Kent had one apiece. In all, FC had nine penalty shot attempts.

Offensively, when shots and shots on goal were tallied, the Soccer Dawgs’ Griffin was 83-39 while Tolliver was 82-39.

The team’s shots-shots on goal numbers included: Furlow, 56-33; Marcengill, 53-27; Fields, 31-8; Emfinger, 23-8; Xavien Felton, 22-13; Cox, 22-10; Shaw, 16-5; Keyundre Felton, 11-2; Johnson, 7-3; Mullins, 7 shots; Hutto, 4-3; Preston Cupit, 4-1; Jordan, 2-1; Touchstone, 2-1; Jack Hutto, 1-1; Carson Laird, one shot; and Parker Cupit, one shot on goal.

Griffin paced FC with four game-winning goals during the season while Furlow recorded three and Marcengill and Tolliver each had two.

Keyundre Felton and Jordan had one game-winning goal apiece.

Tolliver led the team with two game-winning assists this season while Xavien Felton, Furlow, Griffin and Mullins had one each.

Franklin County’s varsity boys soccer program had 1,473 defensive stops during the 2021-2022 campaign — with five players in triple digits in terms of take-aways.

Kent, as a sophomore, led the program with 199 while Johnson added 183, Shaw had 160, Fields collected 138 and Touchstone chipped in 119.

Other defensive stop totals included: Emfinger, 96; Mullins, 87; Tolliver, 84; Griffin, 80; Xavien Felton, 73; Furlow, 65; Cox, 52; Marcengill, 38; Keyundre Felton, 34; Carraway, 22; Jordan, 16; Preston Cupit, 13; Jack Hutto, five; Parker Cupit, four; Dakota Chisholm, two; Tim Hutto, two; and Laird, one.

Three players worked in the goalkeeper position for the Soccer Dawgs with Chishom having 14 starts and a 12-4-1 record in front of the net.

He had five shut-outs, surrended 20 goals and three penalty goals on 10 attempts while recording an impressive 108 saves on the campaign.

Keyundre Felton had five starts as keeper with a 3-0-2 record with 24 saves and four goals given up.

Tolliver had one start during the season with nine saves and four goals surrendered.
