Clarkdale ends FC's season
CLARKDALE — Franklin County High School’s varsity girls soccer team came up on the short end of a 5-0 decision on Monday, Jan. 24 to Clarkdale in the first round of the Class I post-season playoffs.
The Lady Bulldogs ended their campaign with a 14-7 overall record and as the No. 2 seed coming out of District 7.
“We faced a talented Clarkdale team and gave up four goals in the first half of play,” FCHS Head Soccer Coach Jeff Long said following the contest.
“I was proud of the way our girls responded in the second half with an outstanding effort that saw us allow one goal on a free kick.
“We managed three shots while Clarkdale was 5-of-13 on shots on goal. Goalkeeper Katherine Romero made nine saves for us in the game.”
Offensively for FC, Kayleigh Foy had two of the Lady Soccer Dawgs’ shots and a shot on goal while Kayleigh Bolt had a single shot.
In terms of defensive stops, Franklin County recorded a team-total 42 take-aways with Ali Bolt pacing the Lady Dawgs with 13 while Kayleigh Bolt recorded nine and Kaitlyn Fussell had eight.
Others with stops included: Brooklynn Cupit, 6; Kayleigh Foy, 4; and Addison Cooper, 2.

SEASON TOTALS
Franklin County wound up its 2021-2022 campaign with 62 goals scored over the course of 19 games with two forfeits by opponents along the way due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Kayleigh Bolt led the way this season with a team-high 14 goals while teammate Morgan Laird scored nine and Ashlynn O’Quinn finished with eight.
Those scoring goals for the Lady Soccer Dawgs also included: Edniya Gordon, seven; Lilly Hutto, six; Foy, five; Gre’yone Queen, four; Ali Bolt, Fussell and Karlee Wallace, two each; and Carmen Coleman, Cupit and Braxton Martin, one each.
In the assists department, Kayleigh Bolt, Cupit and Laird had nine each during the season while O’Quinn chipped in four and Ali Bolt, Gordon and Hutto finished with three each.
Foy, Fussell and Karlee Wallace accounted for two assists apiece while Coleman, Savannah Emfinger and Addison Lunsford had one each.
The team, as a whole, finished with 49 assists in the just-completed season.
Scoring penalty goals for Franklin were O’Quinn, who was 3-of-3, and Ali Bolt, who was 1-of-1.
Kayleigh Bolt and Hutto were both 1-of-2 on penalty goals versus attempts with Karlee Wallace having two attempts and Cupit with one.
In regards to shots-shots on goal, Lady Soccer Dawg Kayleigh Bolt went 94-48 with Laird finishing with a 53-26 showing.
The remainder of the team’s shots-shots on goal numbers included: O’Quinn, 47-26; Queen, 35-12; Karlee Wallace, 35-13; Hutto, 34-14; Cupit, 30-14; Foy, 27-16; Gordon, 25-9; Ali Bolt, 15-4; Ken’niya McGowan, 9-1; Fussell, 7-4; Coleman, 2-1; Amberly Wallace, 2-1 ; Martin, 1-1; and Romero, one shot.
Kayleigh Bolt was credited with three game-winning goals, four game-winning assists and a hat trick for the Lady Dawgs.
Laird had two game-winning goals and a game-winning assist while O’Quinn recorded four game-winning goals and a game-winning assist.
Cupit chipped in two game-winning assists this season with Karlee Wallace adding one.
Hutto and Gordon both had one game-winning goal apiece for Franklin County.
Defensively, Ali Bolt finished her season with 176 stops while Karlee Wallace had 144, Kayleigh Bolt added 121, Hutto was credited with 111 and O’Quinn chipped in 102.
Others in the FC line-up with their defensive-stop totals included: Fussell, 98; Amberly Wallace, 95; Cupit, 68; Laird, 63; Foy, 57; Martin, 44; Queen, 37; Gordon, 27; Cooper, 22; Savannah Arnold, 18; McGowan, 14; Meg Kelly, 11; Coleman, seven; Fussell, seven; Lunsford, four; Romero, four; and Emfinger, three.
Two players worked as FC goalkeepers during the season — Romero and Amberly Wallace.
Romero, who played in 18 games, amassed a record of 10-6-1 in front of the net with five shut-outs and 80 saves while surrendering 17 goals and four penalty goals.
Amberly Wallace, who played in seven games and got one start during the campaign, finished with a record of 2-1 with 19 saves to her credit.
She surrendered only seven goals and three penalty goals as keeper.
