HERBERT THORNTON

April 7, 1933-Jan. 27, 2024

Funeral services for Herbert Thornton, 90, of Meadville, will be at 11

a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024 from the Chapel of Franklin Funeral Home

in Meadville, with Rev. Tony Mullins officiating. Visitation will be

from 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.

Following the funeral service, interment will take place at Midway

Cemetery in Meadville.

Born on April 7, 1933 in Meadville to Sidney Thornton and Annie

Thornton, he enjoyed family get-togethers, telling stories from the

past, raising gardens --- not only for his family but for others in the

community --- helping his neighbors, giving to others, watching sports

and living life to the fullest.

He was a Christian man who was a pillar of his family and held close to

his heart the Fruits of the Spirit.

He died on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024 with his loving family by his side.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Julie

Thornton of Rock Spring, Ga., and Gary and Angela Thornton of

Brookhaven; his grandchildren and their respective spouses, Cassie and

Caroline, Burt, Krystie, Garrett and Rachel, Travis, Olivia and Zach;

his great-grandchildren, Bella, Elyse, Addi Grace, Colt, Byrson, Smalls

and Malekai; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and other family

members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sydney Thornton and Annie

Mullins Thornton; his wife of 65 years, Pauline Thornton; his son,

Herbert Noel "Bubbie" Thornton, Jr.; his brothers, Sydney, Rudy and

infant brother; and his sisters, Earnestine McCartney, Mae Ivey, Annie

Laura Summerall, Lucille Leonard, Bessie Higginbotham, Pearl Holland and

infant Imagene Thornton.

Pallbearers will be Travis Thornton, Zach Thornton, Robert Lynn

Thornton, Jerry Ivey, Bobby McCartney and Randy Arnold. Honorary

pallbearers will be James Mullins, James Herring, Dale Bryant, Kimbo

Waguespack and Randy Martin.

The family requests that memorial donations be sent to the Midway

Cemetery in Meadville.

JANIE MAE COTHREN

June 11, 1938-Jan. 26, 2024

Funeral services for Janie Mae Cothren, 85, of Meadville, were conducted

on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2024 from Middleton Creek Primitive Baptist Church

in Meadville, with Elder Tom Griffin officiating.

Interment followed in the Middleton Creek Primitive Baptist Church

Cemetery.

Born on June 11, 1938 in Amite County to Alvie and Bertha Jackson, she

was devoted to making a home for her five children and husband in her

earlier days. She loved to garden, can vegetables from her garden and

cook for her family. She enjoyed taking care of her flowers and plans,

feeding her hummingbirds and birds, sewing clothing for her children and

loved a good quilting circle.

She loved to attend church services and was an exceptional singer. She

also enjoyed crocheting many hats, dish rags and afghans, many of which

can be found on the pews in her church. More recently, she loved

visiting with her friends at Meadville Convalescent Home, playing Bingo

and loved all things flamingo.

She died on Friday, Jan. 26, 2024 at Franklin County Memorial Hospital.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki Jane and Aaron

Lang of Summit, Leigh Ann and Jeff Bein of Smithdale and Marla Diane and

Tracy Martin of Smithdale; her sons and daughters-in-law, Gary Lynn and

Lawanna Cothren of Meadville and Charles Davis and Amanda Cothren of

Liberty; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, five

great-great-grandchildren with two on the way and a host of family and

friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvie and Bertha Jackson; her

husband, Charles Maurice Cothren; and her brother, Douglas Jackson.

Pallbearers were Joseph Cothren, Byron Cothren, Will Bein, Ethan Martin,

Daniel Cothren, Spencer Bowman, Spencer Touchstone and Thomas Greer.

Honorary pallbearers were Bryant Bowman, Ryan Ming, Logan Wilkerson,

Aaron Cooper, Braxton Greer, David Lang, Chance Greer, Alex Cooper,

Austin Greer, Christian Ming, Caden Ming, Robbie Cooper, Blaine Roberts,

Blake Mann and Tucker Cothren.
