Guilty pleas entered in local cases

A 21-year-old man with Lincoln County ties has pleaded guilty in Franklin County Circuit Court in connection with separate charges of touching a child for lustful purposes and sexual battery.
Judge Debra K. Blackwell issued her sentencing order on Thursday, Jan. 20 for Grayson Laine Brewer of Brookhaven after Brewer entered his guilty pleas during December’s court session.
Brewer was ordered to concurrently serve 15 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections with credit for time already served, including eight years to serve on each count with seven years of post-release supervision.
Brewer was also ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation and be provided treatment, as needed, by MDOC.
He was also ordered to register as a sexual offender, as required by state law, upon release and to pay associated court costs and fees.
Brewer was indicted by the Franklin County Grand Jury during its January, 2021 session and was initially arraigned in Justice Court on Feb. 8, 2021, where his bond was set at $15,000.
He ultimately pleaded guilty to the charges facing him in December, 2021, but Blackwell delayed Brewer’s sentencing until last week.
The first count of the indictment — lustful touching (Mississippi Code Section 97-5-23 (1) — against Brewer involved a female under the age of 16 at the time of the incident.
The second count of the indictment — sexual battery (Mississippi Code Section 97-3-95 (1) (a) — involved a male under the age of 14.
