Funeral services for (Retired) Maj. John Lloyd Byrd, 92, of Aledo, Texas, will be held at noon on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2022, at McNeely Road Church of God in Natchez with Dr. Brian Monehan, Pastor James Byrd, Pastor David Byrd and Pastor Tonnie May officiating.
Interment will follow in Byrd’s Chapel Cemetery in Meadville.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 28, 2022, and from 11 a.m., until the time of services on Saturday, Jan. 29 at the McNeely Road Church of God.
Maj. Byrd was born May 14, 1929, in Chattanooga, Tenn., and died on Friday, Jan. 21, 2022, at Texas Health Resources-Southwest in Fort Worth.
He married Bonnie Erle Holland on April 19, 1952, and the couple shared their lives for 67 years until her death on Feb. 26, 2019.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. John Leslie Byrd and Velma Roberts Byrd; his step-mother, Evelyn Moore Byrd; his brother, Cecil Byrd; and his sisters, Anna Mathis and Virginia Baggett.
Survivors include his three sons, Bill and Linda Byrd of Shreveport, La., Bob and Susan Byrd of Hope Mills, N.C., and Ken and Debbie Byrd of Aledo, Texas; his seven grandchildren, Ashley Thibodeaux and Joan, Danielle and Stephen Kozikowski, Michelle Snyder, Arielle and Cody Hughes, Zack Byrd, David and Katherine Byrd and Daniel and Katherine Byrd; his one great-grand child, Vera Blake, and a second great-grandchild expected this July; his sisters, Jewel Alexander, Frances Allred, and Iris and Paul Royce; his sister-in-law, Brenda Williams; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close special friends, including Benny Gorum, Charles Stroup and Dr. Robert Crick.
Pallbearers are David Byrd, Daniel Byrd, Stephen Kozikowski, Jimmy Dale Edwards, Billy Jordan and Tim Hodge.
