FC's Kent will play in All-Star soccer contest

Franklin County High School sophomore defensive stand-out Zachary Kent has been selected to take part in the Central Mississippi Soccer All-Star Game to be played at East Central Community College in Decatur at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 8.

The contest, which is hosted by the Central Mississippi High School Soccer organization, will feature a mix of sophomores, juniors and seniors from schools throughout the central portion of the Magnolia State — stretching from Hattiesburg to Madison County and from Meridian to Vicksburg.

Kent, who is the son of Chris and Angie Kent, is now leading the Bulldogs’ varsity boys soccer program with a team-high 178 defensive stops.

In fact, Kent has accounted for 13.5 percent of all FC defensive take-aways, which have totaled 1,313 during the 2021-2022 campaign.

Also during the current season on offense, Kent had a goal to his credit along with six assists.

Also this season, he has 29 shots and eight shots on goal.

Last season, as a freshman, Kent recorded 188 defensive stops along with being named an all-district player and the district’s Most Valuable Defender.

Also named as part of the All-Star team alongside Kent was Brookhaven High School sophomore Bryce Smith.

The local duo will be playing for William Carey University Soccer Coach Barry Farrell’s team, which will include the following players: Anakin Crawford, West Lauderdale senior; Landen Linares, Petal sophomore; Bladimir Hernandez, West Jones senior; Carlos Mendoza, Laurel senior; Dami Oluvatade, Saint Andrews senior; Dylan Dykes, Petal sophomore; Ian Graham, Clarkdale junior; Jair Hernandez, Northeast Jones junior; Landon Parrow, Madison Central senior; Logan Cole, Clinton sophomore; Luke Dickson, Oak Grove junior; Price Farrar, Clinton sophomore; Riley Lampkin, Warren Central senior; Tate Caucum, Newton County junior; Tucker Jones, Northwest Rankin junior; and Will Wood, Southeast Lauderdale senior.
