The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department is continuing its investigation into the Memorial Day weekend death of a man riding an all-terrain vehicle near Camp Ridge Point.

Sheriff Tom Tindle confirmed 37-year-old Brian Hazel died when the ATV he was riding went off a rural bridge and ultimately fell about 30 feet to the ground below.

“The incident happened around 2 a.m., Sunday morning and we are looking at what might have led to the accident,” Tindle added.

Memorial Day is the traditional start of the summer vacation season across the Magnolia State, and the Mississippi Department of Public Safety reported there were three other traffic-related deaths and 40 injuries reported this past weekend.

Outside of Sunday morning’s Franklin County mishap, traffic fatalities were reported in Madison, Newton and Leake counties between 12:01 a.m., Friday, May 26 and midnight on Monday, May 29 by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
