Graveside funeral services for Louie Vernon Jones, 90, of Farmersville, La., were held at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 7, 2022, at Franklin County’s Midway Cemetery with the Rev. Billy Joe Deer officiating.

Mr. Jones was born to Mr. Ernest Vernon “Strunt” Jones and Mrs. Mary Augusta Lamor Jones on Jan. 9, 1931, in Bude.

He passed away Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022, at his home on Lake D’Arbonne in Farmerville, La.  

After graduating from Meadville High School, Mr. Jones attended Copiah-Lincoln Junior College where he played in the band.

He joined the United States Navy in 1950 and served as quartermaster on the U.S.S. Quapaw and served on the U.S.S. Haven where he participated in four tours to Korea until 1954.

Mr. Jones also served his country as an Army Staff Sergeant E6 in the United States National Guard for 18 years.

He married Patsy Rae Hammock on Oct. 21, 1952, and they were married until her death in 1983.

The couple lived and raised their four children in Natchez where Mr. Jones retired from a 34-year career at International Paper Co., in 1993.   

He later married Arlene Cloy of Monroe, and treasured the time spent in and around his hometown of Bude for the next 27 years.
Golfing, fishing, traveling and gardening were the simple pleasures that he really enjoyed in his life.

Mr. Jones was a member of Bude Baptist Church.  

Preceding Mr. Jones in death were his parents.

He is survived by his loving sister, Dorothy Jean Ezell; his son and three daughters, Melvin Jones and his wife, Donna, of Brandon, Jenny Scott and her husband, Ronnie, of McCall Creek, Kay Hopper and her husband, Eddie, of Brandon and Lori Ann House and her husband, John, of Farmerville, La. 

Mr. Jones was very proud of his nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly.
Ms. Virginia Jones is a very special friend who he loved spending time with.

Pallbearers were Jason Jones, Bryan Cavin, Addison Hansford, Charlie Alford, Justin Dollar and Chris Thomas.

Honorary Pallbearers were members of the Patriot Guard.
