Funeral services for Mr. Calvin Reese Smith Jr., 70, of Meadville, were held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 26, 2021, at Franklin Funeral Home in Meadville with the Rev. Tony Mullins officiating.

Interment was in Franklin County’s Midway Cemetery.

Visitation was held from 1 p.m., until the time of service on Sunday, Sept. 26 at Franklin Funeral Home.

Mr. Smith was born to Calvin Reese Smith Sr., and Gladys Marie Ratcliff Smith on July 31, 1951, in Franklin County and passed from this life on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2021, at Baptist Medical Center.

“Junior,” as everyone knew him, loved people and his country. He served in the United States Army and retired after 22 years of service.

He was known by many as the “UPS” man having spent 30 years as a driver for United Parcel Service.

He loved sports and was a great entertainer with groups of people. He had a way of making people laugh at his jokes and stories.

He loved his family and spending time with them, especially his grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Shirley Ann Smith; his daughter, Chasity Smith and husband, Ken; his brother, Wesley Ratcliff and wife, Willie Faye; his sisters; Vicky Laird, Shirley Arnold and husband, Ronald, and Paulette Mullins and husband, Tony; his four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

Pallbearers were Reese Brocato, Manson Smallwood, Dusty Matthews, Cade Cangemi, Cal Ray and Matthew Smith.

Honorary pallbearers were Spencer Smallwood, Clay Smallwood and Tommy Smallwood.
