Funeral services for Venton Ray Adams, 84, of Summit, were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 27, 2021, at Hartman-Jones Funeral Home in McComb with Dr. Woody Rimes officiating.

Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery in Summit with military honors.

Visitation was held from 12:30 p.m., until the time of service on Sunday, June 27 at Hartman-Jones Funeral Home in McComb.

Mr. Adams was born to Howard and Clara Bell Roberts Adams on Sept. 24, 1936, in Franklin County, and passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in McComb.

He graduated from Summit High School and attended Southwest Mississippi Community College and William Carey.

He served 47 years in the Mississippi Army National Guard and was on active duty during the Gulf War.

He reached the rank of warrant officer and retired as a master sergeant.

He was a regional football, basketball, baseball and softball referee for more than 30 years for both Mississippi public and private schools.

Mr. Adams was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of McComb and served as a deacon.

He also served as member of the Pike County Board of Supervisor for 12 years and as president of that board.
