WILLIAM LUTHER IKERD JR.

July 10, 1937 – June 8, 2021

Graveside funeral services for Mr. William Luther Ikerd Jr., 83, of Meadville were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 12, 2021, at Franklin County’s Midway Cemetery with Bishop Lee Miley and Pastor Larry Edwards officiating, and Megan Pedigo singing.

Mr. Ikerd was born to William Luther Ikerd Sr., and Laura Seab Ikerd on July 10, 1937, in Roxie.

He passed from this life on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at Merit Health Wesley in Hattiesburg with his loving family by his side.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, restoring tractors and spending time with his grandchildren.

Mr. Ikerd was retired from Mississippi State Tax Commission as a tax auditor and served 34 years with the Army National Guard.

He is a fallen hero as a Master Gunner, serving his country.

He served in the First Battalion, 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team, headquartered in McComb.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his sisters, Billy Jean Ikerd Hargett, Laurie Ikerd Temple, Deanne and Daron Temple.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Shirley Ikerd; his daughters, Stephanie Holland (Garvin), Trina Welch (Bert); his sister, Florence Townsend; his brother, Howard Lamar Ikerd (Sandra); numerous cousins; his grandchildren, Joshua Holland, Andy Welch, Adam Welch, Caleb Welch, Cole Welch; and his niece and nephews, Michele Ikerd, Joe Hargett and Greg Hargett.

Pallbearers were Andy Welch, Caleb Welch, Cole Welch, Garvin Holland, Stuart Carter, Vance Holland, Bert Welch and Will Bryan.

Honorary Pallbearers were Clyde Conerly, Shannon Whatley, Adam Welch, Joshua Holland Robert Smith and Howard Seab.

The family requests memorials be made in Mr. Ikerd’s name to Blair E. Batson Hospital in Jackson or to Praise Cathedral Church of God in Meadville.
